What happened: A video of newly elected American Vice president, Kamala Harris resurfaced on the internet which is worrying a lot of supporter; especially Muslim supporters. Back in 2017 Kamala delivered a speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference in which she referred to the US-Israel relationship as rock-solid.
In less than 2 minutes Kamala Harris says ‘We must stand with Israel’ 3 times. Also adds: ‘I support US commitment to provide Israel with 38 billion dollars in military assistance.’

Why it’s important: Israel and American relationship has always been a bone of contention. Back in the nineteenth century when the USA started its imperial experiment in the Middle East the only thing bothered Muslim counteries was USA-Israel romance. But eventually the autocratic regime made peace with it under the table. Many Muslim counteries in Middle East is trying to build a relationship with Israel for economic advantages. Within the USA, members of Congress, such as Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have been vocally against Israel violations against Palestinians.
Even Jewish Democrat Senator, Bernie Sanders is a strong critic of Israel violations of human rights and expressed his sentiment within the party too.
What people are saying: Internet reacted to Kamala’s stance with suspicions and anger.
What’s next: It is too early to say whether Kamala’s stance about Israel has actual gravity or maybe it was mere rhetoric to gain support. But keeping in mind the history of her political journey one can assume that she would be presenting challenges to progressive branch of the Democratic party.
