Shamim Akhtar, more popularly known as Shamim Bibi was the mother of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and his brother, current opposition leader in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif. Shamim Bibi passed away in London, on Sunday morning, the 22nd of November.

She was in London with her son, PML-N supremo, Nawaz Sharif, who is currently being treated for a number of medical ailments. The 93 year old Shamim Bibi was an Alzheimers patient and had been ill for months. PML-N MPA Azma Bukhari told the media that her condition turned critical in the last week, before she passed away on Sunday. Shamim Bibi led a quiet life in comparison to her children and grandchildren, most of whom are giants in the Pakistani political sphere. She rarely ever appeared in public or spoke to the media. In a rare interview, in 2018, she spoke about how the cases against Nawaz Sharif had stressed her out to the point of negatively impacting her health. She also expressed that she was willing to go to jail with her son, if that was how the situation turned.
Shamim Bibi had completed her education to matriculation level, before she married Mian Muhammad Sharif . She had 3 children, Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and the late Abbas Sharif. Her only foray into politics was in 2013 when she contested and won a provincial assembly seat in Punjab. She served as a member of the Punjab Assembly from 2013-2018.
