What happened: The opposition parties, praising the Supreme Court’s decision, called on the nation and its workers to commemorate Thanksgiving Day on Apr 8 (today) and stage festivities around the country in honour of the country’s ‘win of democracy and the Constitution.’ Details: Hundreds of workers and lawyers from opposition parties gathered outside the Supreme Court (SC) building on Constitution Avenue to celebrate and congratulate each other after the five-member SC panel led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial over-ruled National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Qasim Suri’s ruling. The opposition leaders applauded the Supreme Court decision at a news conference held inside Shehbaz Sharif’s official residence in the Ministers Enclave, saying that “the ruling will be written with golden words in history.” More: “All previous judgments based on the notion of necessity have been buried by this verdict, no one would be able to employ the idea of necessity till the end of time,” Sharif added as he hailed the decision as a win for the country’s 220 million people, democracy, parliament, and the Constitution.
