What happened: According to senior police officials in the western state of Gujarat, nine Pakistani residents were arrested on Apr 25 on suspicion of smuggling a significant stash of drugs into the country via the Arabian sea route. Details: “We detained nine Pakistanis and recovered 56 sachets of heroin, each weighing one kilogramme, from a boat that entered Indian waters from Pakistan,” said Amit Vishwakarma, inspector general of Gujarat’s anti-terror team. The drugs are estimated to be worth $37 million by local officials. India has accused Pakistan of assisting narcotics cartels in establishing networks over the border, which Pakistan denies.
