Children evicting parents can face up to one year of jail time: LHC

What happened:   On the 27th of December, the Lahore High Court observed the eviction of parents by a child from a house is an offense and it can attract rigorous imprisonment for a term of up to one year. Under Section 3 of the Protection of Parents Ordinance 2021, children cannot evict their parents from a house.  Details: If a child owns the house or if the child rents it and he/she evicts the parents, it has been described as an offense, as PPO 2021. On the other hand, the Section 4 of Protection of Parents Ordinance 2021, a parent can evict a child, his spouse, or offspring from a house owner or rented by the parent. At the same time, if the child/spouse/offspring cannot vacate the house, he may be punished with a jail time of 30days or a five thousand rupees fine. What else: The President of Pakistan office earlier in 2021 tweeted,  “The protection of Parents Ordinance 2021 prohibits expulsion or eviction of parents by ungrateful Children or Grandchildren. We have made it a punishable act and have empowered local authorities to aid the parents in case of violation.”
