Women left out as Taliban announce new TV directives

What happened: The Taliban-led Afghan government has announced new television rules. The Taliban government has banned women from appearing in Afghan TV dramas. The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, while announcing the new directives, said that only men without exposing their bodies could appear in Afghan TV dramas.

Details: According to the new TV directives, foreign cultures and traditions won’t air on the Afghan channels. At the same time, entertainment programs that humiliate an individual are also barred from being aired. More importantly, women actresses are not permitted to work. However, the female journalists should appear on screens with hijabs,  “These are not rules but a religious guideline,”  says the Taliban’s spokesperson, Hakir Mohajir.  What you need to know:   Previously, in August, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan, they had claimed that women would return to work. It is pertinent to know that nearly after 20 years, the Taliban had returned to govern Afghanistan, with claims of having a reasonable and moderate government  “this time.”
