Why are WhatsApp & Facebook the most frequently used apps to harass women in Pakistan?

What happened: A recent survey by the Digital Rights Foundation (an NGO in Pakistan) has revealed that the most frequently used applications to harass the women in Pakistan are WhatsApp and Facebook, primarily. IN PAKISTAN, the DRF NGO has published their five-year cyber harassment annual report, revealing that the cyber harassment helpline has received more than 11,681 cases during the last 5 years.  What you need to know: The survey quoted by different publications claimed that in 2021 alone, 4441 cases of harassment were reported and had an average of 370 cases per month. Whereas, the cyber harassment complaints, if divided by gender, showed that women made 68%, and 30% of complaints were from males, and only 2% were from the minorities in Pakistan. More: Nighat Dad, the executive director for the NGO, revealed,  “The pace at which the cases of cyber harassment are increasing is alarming and must serve as a wake-up call for us to take appropriate action…”
