What happened : The 5th Hum Style Awards took place on 4th July in Lahore. While the pandemic had deescalated the fashion industry this past year with only a few virtual fashion shows taking place, Hum style awards was expected to bring back the spirit of Fashion and Cinema. Yet did it?
The Red Carpet
It all began with the red carpet; bright lights flashing life into the extravagant night. With uninterrupted clicking of cameras and all eyes on celebrities, the Red carpet witnessed a diverse spectrum of glamour and fashion.
While some celebrities were commended for their exquisite semblance, people had a lot to say about the rest:
Seemi Raheel also called out the celebrities for their lack of cultural representation in their fashion:
Other Highlights: Abdullah Siddiqui and Risham Faiz Bhutta, two rising stars, opened the stage with an upbeat and flattering performance. With their mesmerizing vocals and the exuberant backstage performance, the night began with a beaming spark.
Shero, famously known as HSY, and ever-beautiful Resham did a flamboyantly dramatic dance performance. Both danced out to a medley of nostalgic Punjabi melodies and had a heightened hearty (in lovesick way) effect on the audience.
Aima Baig hit the stage flagrantly singing some of her top hits such as “Te quiero” and “Kaif-o-suroor” that got everyone to their toes.
There was a lot going on at this year’s HSAs from outburst on Ali Zafar’s show hosting to introduction of some awards hitting around the bush. The introduction of two all-new strange awards included: the Super Mom Award given to actor Momal Sheikh, and the Best Parents Award that went to celebrity husband-wife duo Fahad Mirza and Sarwat Gilani.
Problematic Hosting?
Ali Zafar, an alleged harasser, hosted the stage along with Urva Hocane. HSA received plenty of criticism regarding their reckless choice of hosts. In response Meesha Shafi tweeted:
Twitter users also showcased their outrage and disappointment:
