What’s up with the misogynistic remarks in political rallies?

Details: On Apr 22, Twitter user, Syed Zain Raza (twt/MrSyedZainRaza) shared a poster from Lahore Jalsa which mentions a derogatory misogynistic term being used for PML-N Vice President, Maryam Nawaz Sharif. According to Zain, this behaviour got normalised because of Imran Khan referring to her as ‘Nani’ while on the other hand, PTI’s leader Ali Amin Gandapur called Maryam Nawaz ‘Daku Nani’ and also threatened her with physical violence. What else: People in the reply section argued that PML-N supporters do the same women involved with PTI, as Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Maneka was called ‘peerni’ and was accused of performing black magic while his ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith shared a video of men doing a ‘vulgar humping’ dance right outside her mother’s home after they threatened to ‘enter her bedroom.’ Digital Rights Advocate, Hija Kamran says that its the leadership that initiates and encourages this sort of language, “And of course this is not unique to PTI, in fact PMLN, MQM, PPP and others have targeted women in the same manner to attack opponents. Only tells you the deeply rotten political structure they frame and follow.”
