Usman Mirza Case: Man rapes woman at gunpoint in Islamabad, video causes outrage

What Happened : Usman Mirza tortured and raped a woman at gun-point in Islamabad. The culprit beat both the woman and her partner, while getting the entire incident video-tapped. Last night, the video of the incident went viral, seething outrage over the internet. DC ISB said that the video is from May.  Details: Sources reported that the incident occurred two months back, when Usman allegedly along with his other accomplices barged into an apartment in the E-11 sector of Islamabad. The suspect continued to blackmail the couple with the video and demanded money in return and warned to make it viral in case of non-compliance.

Details: Usman Mirza barged into a private property with his goons. He brutally harassed and raped a woman after torturing her and her partner at gunpoint. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad said the incident took place in May in Islamabad and the perpetrator has been arrested. Last night, the video of the incident went viral, seething outrage on the internet over injustice and crimes against women in Pakistan.

After the Motorway case in May, this horrendous incident also caused uproar on the internet over women safety and rights in Pakistan.

Perpetrators Arrested: The prime suspect, Usman Mirza and three of his accomplices – Hafiz Ataur Rehman, Farhan Shaheen Awan and Madras Butt – have been taken into custody and charged with sexual assault, the officials reported. The incident has ignited widespread online outrage over the country’s longstanding problems with sexual violence, prompting a swift response from Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman who immediately directed SSP Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer to ensure the arrest of the suspects at the earliest. The case has been registered against the suspect under Section 354-A (assaulting and stripping a woman of her clothes), Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and Section 509 (sexual harassment) of the Pakistan Penal Code. However the question is what would’ve happened to Usman Mirza, had the video not gone viral? And how many Usman Mirza’s still loom freely because of our justice system?

In addition, the investigation also discovered Mirza’s ‘guest house’ where sexual assault was routinely filmed and then used as a blackmailing tool against victims. The police said that it would probe into allegations about suspects blackmailing women with videos who used to stay at his guest house, adding that police was utilizing modern techniques to trace the suspects.

His Facebook page says he studied computer science at Punjab College of Commerce in Islamabad. The page is filled with short, slow-motion videos showing him walking with young men carrying guns which hints his involvement in crime.
