A study revealed that universities will receive 230,000 fewer students this year, many of which are international candidates, due to Covid-19.

Research on the impact of the coronavirus showed that this
year many students are opting to postpone or abandon their higher education. This
will be a serious financial blow to universities. It is reported that 60,000
jobs will be lost in universities as well as the local economy in the UK. Many
have criticised universities for not cooperating with each other as they all
compete for seats.

On the other hand the University and College Union is asking the government to underwrite any funding lost from a drop in student numbers to ensure universities can continue their vital research into Covid-19.

The lack of students means universities could experience a £2.5 billion loss.
