What happened: Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has given a statement saying Pakistan needs to stop force evicting it’s citizens living along two of Karachi’s narrow watercourses, locally known as nullahs – Gujjar nullah and Orangi nullah through the anti-encroachment drive by city authorities. Details: The statement by the OHCHR further comments that the anti-encroachment drive is being done without adequate consultation with the affected residents, no relocation plan, and disparate and insufficient compensation for the displaced citizens. The decision to evict the residents could result in close to 100,000 poor people being made homeless out on streets, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here for more from Propergaanda.
