What happened: On March 24, a UK Judge ruled that the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, domestically abused his ex-wife, “Jordan’s Princess Haya bint al-Hussein, on an exorbitant level and granted her sole custody of their two children.” The ruling by the UK judge also added, “Sheikh Mohammed had consistently displayed coercive and controlling behavior with respect to those members of his family who he regards as behaving contrary to his will.” Details: The UK Judge Andrew McFarlane stated, “Given his(Dubai ruler) immense power and wealth, the potential for the father and those in Dubai who do his bidding, to act remorselessly against the interests of the mother has been proved during these proceedings.” At the same time, the Judge said that the abuse had an emotional toll on the Jordanian princess. It is pertinent to mention that the divorcee proceedings ended with the 74-year-old Dubai ruler being asked to pay Jordan princess 734 million dollars. It is said to be one of the largest divorce settlements handed by the British court.
