What happened: On April 21, the Punjab School Education Department suspended the primary school teachers of Government Primary School Akhtarabad, Bhawalpur city, under section 6 of PEEDA Act 2006. It is pertinent to mention that previously the Punjab government had barred the government employees from using social media to voice their views about any political party. Details: The teachers were suspended on the charges of misusing social media for political posts as earlier, the government had barred employees from getting involved in the smear campaign against state institutions on social media. However, on the other hand, Punjab Teachers Uninor had supported the government’s decision to ban social media platforms among the government officials. Still, according to Daw, a few educationists condemned the imposition of the ban, as they claimed that it might turn the country into a police state.
