The Hunger Games is getting a prequel novel, set 64 years prior to the original series

The novel, currently untitled, is scheduled for release on May 19, 2020. Collins said in a statement Monday that she would go back to the years following the so-called “Dark Days,” the failed rebellion in Panem. Collins set the “Hunger Games” books in a post-apocalyptic dystopia where young people must fight and kill each other, on live television.

“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival,” she said. “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

Kaleem added. “My skin colour defines me, it’s who I am, so if you feel like you need to whiten me up so that I match the ‘requirements of the brief, or the shoot’ or ‘because Lahoris have issues with dark models for summer lawn’ or whatever, please don’t consider me for your shoots.”

Faryal Makhdoom thinks that stay-at-home mothers should be paid salaries higher that surgeons

While appearing on Good Morning Britain, Faryal Makhdoom was of the opinion that stay-at-home mothers (or as she describes them: “CEO of the house”) should receive a salary.

“We’re not just looking after our children but the entire house. A CEO of the house that’s not getting paid. It’s laundry, cooking, cleaning, looking after your children, and I think when you put it all together, we should get paid more than a surgeon or a lawyer, it adds up to £100k a year, more than that,” she shared in conversation with hosts, Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway.

We feel like Makhdoom does make a fair point about the unpaid labour that women do across the globe but especially in desi households. Our society thinks household chores are the responsibility of women alone. These tasks include childcare, cooking, cleaning, domestic upkeep, the list goes on. And don’t even get us started on the emotional labour of keeping a family together.

The second installment of SOC Films’ short film series on real-life child abuse stories shines the light on the heroic efforts of Iqbal Masih, a young bonded labourer from the Punjab town Muridke who devoted his short life to fight for the rights of children like himself.

In Iqbal Ka Bachpan, we see how Iqbal tried to liberate other child workers like him when the Pakistan Supreme Court declared bonded labour illegal but was betrayed by the police. After suffering torture by his factory owner, he managed to escape and get the education he desired.

The two-minute film stops short of disclosing Iqbal’s unfortunate fate. After he reportedly toured the world where he raised awareness about the plight of bonded labourers, Iqbal was fatally shot at the age of 12 during a visit to his hometown. The reasons behind his murder are disputed.

I am innocent of all the allegations made against me, says trans activist Kami Sid

It is with sadness that I have to make this official statement about the allegations of rapeand sexual violence…

Posted by Kami Sid on Saturday, May 25, 2019

Trans rights activist Kami Sid has issued a statement days after she was accused of rape and intimidation by several people on social media.

In her statement Kami says that the allegations relate to a case that was brought up and allegedly resolved by NGOs and members of the khwajasira in 2014. She says: “The case of allegations that my slanderers refer to is from 2014. Back then already, no legal charges were ever made against me. Nevertheless, both the NGOs that I was working with at that time and the khwajasara community decided to investigate the case.”

“It was decided that I would not be able to work with them anymore if I would be found guilty. Both investigated the case thoroughly. The investigation was painstaking and difficult for me. But I knew that I was innocent and had nothing to fear. In the end, indeed, both the NGOs I was working with and the khwajasara community could prove me innocent and that all allegations made against me were rendered as being false.”

You can’t make a wedding film in Pakistan without comparisons to DDLJ: Wajahat Rauf

As I realised for the second time this month, it’s tough to book an online ride during Ramazan. The long wait wasn’t awkward at Wajahat Rauf’s house. The director of the upcoming romance-comedy-drama film (or as he calls it, “a family film”) was good company.

Rauf’s carefree, candid, all-accepting attitude is refreshing, and a bit infectious, as we talk about his upcoming film Chhalawa — an Eidul Fitr release that may seem quite familiar; but that, if you ask him, is a good thing, although he does tell you, in the subtlest manner possible, to reserve the final opinion until the film comes out.

An Eveready and Hum Films’ release, Chhalawa seems like a stereotypical film about a full-of-himself hero waltzing into a wedding to whisk away the bride-to-be. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
