What happened: On February 1, the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board hinted at turning the Monal Restaurant into a Wildlife Educational Centre. In a bid to raise awareness about the preservation and protection of Margalla Hills National Park, the management board has planned to convert the restaurant into an educational center. It is pertinent to mention that IHC had ordered authorities to seal the Monal Restaurant on January 11 as Dawn quotes, “Court declared the military’s claim to 8,000 acres of Margalla Hills National Park illegal.”
What’s happening now: The Wildlife Management Board has currently prepared a proposal to establish the educational center, and Pakistan’s climate change ministry has applauded the proposal. Subsequently, the board has finalized on sending notices to two other restaurants operating in the vicinity of the MNHP as the efforts continue to restore the illegally occupied land.
Details: The News quotes an official as, “Old Islamabad Zoo is being turned into wildlife park with separate rescue center for injured wildlife species.” Further adding, “Monal Restaurant has been sealed at least three times. Now other restaurants in the area would also be served notices.”
