LAHORE : The public relations officer at the Punjab prison department has confirmed that the chief of the recently banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), was released from Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore a few hours ago.
What happened : His release has come on the heels of an announcement by Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid about the government’s decision to present a resolution for the expulsion of the French envoy in the National Assembly today. The Context: The TLP has been engaged in violent riots for the past week after their leader, Saad Rizvi, was detained. The party has 4 main demands, of which three have been agreed upon by the government. These include initiating the process of sending a resolution to the National Assembly to expel the French envoy, releasing Rizvi, and withdrawing all cases against their workers. Further negotiations are expected to take place later today at the Punjab Governor House between the two parties. This is a developing story.
