281 (@281kitchenette) started when the chef decided to try something new during lockdown. He had never eaten khao suey previously so he wanted to try it out. This recipe, which was only an experiment at home turned out to be a hit! The khao suey recipe is simple yet unique, as the chef adds his own twist on the sauces. Khaosuey Station (@khaosueystation) was started by a mother who shifted cities during a pandemic and felt homesick. Her children loved khausuey and she’d cook it really often. Little did she know that cooking for three would turn into cooking for hundreds.This short yet beautiful journey took a turn when friends and friends of friends started praising the unique taste. Fat Belly (@fatbellypk) is run by Nadia, a talented and passionate chef. Nadia’s nieces were a fan of her cooking and convinced her to start her own venture in which she’d cook her khao suey and pulao. She started her business with just khao suey at first and expanded her menu. This now includes biryani, pulao, cold cake, and more. Her business was part of the Women of the World Festival in partnership with British Council – they highlight women-led businesses, issues and achievements digitally.
