The Ukrainian culture that Emily in Paris portrays is unacceptable and offensive, says Ukrainian minister

What happened: Oleksandr Tkachenko the minister of culture for Ukraine, in an interview with The Mirror, said,  “In Emily in Paris we have a caricature of a Ukrainian woman which is unacceptable. It is also offensive. Is this how Ukrainians will be seen abroad?”  Tkachenko was mainly talking about the character of  Petra  during the interview and said that the character lacked diversity as she said,  “The Ukrainian woman character of Petra who steals, want to get everything for free, be afraid of deportation? This is not how Ukrainians are.” Details: The Mirror ‘s report also quoted Olga Matveieva, a researcher,  “It was a shame that Petra marginalizes the image of an average Ukrainian woman.”  At the same time, the Ukrainian minister also complained to Netflix that their show was offensive and their response, according to Tkachenko, was  quite diplomatic.  What else: It is pertinent to mention that the Netflix show  Emily in Paris  has received two  Golden Globe  nominations for best musical/comedy series. On the other hand, the critics claim,  “Nationality-based stereotyping not only provokes disbalance but maintains aggression.”
