The silent epidemic of diabetes kills 10 times more people than Covid in Pakistan

What happened: President of Diabetic Foot International, Zahid Miyan, in an interview with a media outlet, said,  “Diabetes is a 10 times more serious and lethal health issue for Pakistan, which claims 34,000 lives in a month, while Covid has so far claimed around 29,000 deaths in the country.”  Subsequently, the health experts in Pakistan have urged the media and concerned authorities to highlight the complications related to diabetes.  Details: At the same time, Zahid Miyan has hinted at 300,000 to 600,000 people losing their legs because of diabetes complications in the country if appropriate measures are not taken. Whereas, Dr Zahid Miyan highlighted that 85% of diabetes complications in the country are avoidable if proper treatment is available at their disposal. Also: Dr Zahid Miyan also talked about the death ratio due to diabetes complications as he said,  “Around 70% of people who lose their limbs due to diabetic foot die within five years.”  The main reasons for the increase in diabetic patients in Pakistan are family history, hypertension, and obesity.
