The renowned Marilyn silk-screen painting sold for a record $195 million at an auction 

What happened: The pop artist Andy Warhol, who made the famed 1964 silkscreen portrait of Marilyn Monroe, was sold at an auction in America, noting it to be a record auction sale at 195 million dollars. It has also become the most expensive 20th-century artwork ever sold at a public auction, as Shot Sage Blue Marilyn is a series of portraits Warhol made of the actress following her death in 1962. Details: The Marilyn Monroe painting was sold at the Christie’s headquarters in New York, and its estimate was a whopping 200 million dollars. Warhol died in 1987, but his work was based on a promotional photo of Monroe from the 1953 film Niagara, laying bright colors over her hair, eyes and lips.
