What happened: In May 2016, a law student Shah Hussain stabbed fellow classmate Khadija Siddiqui barbarically. A session court in March 2018 commuted the sentence to 5 years. Khadija’s stabber is now released. What’s happening now: According to a video released by Geo news, Fayaz ul Hassan stated that Shah Hussain wasn’t granted release by the PM, or the concerned authorities. He was granted remission, by his good character, earned remission of 16 months, by doing BA, by memorizing Quran’s tarjama(translation). He further claimed that all these remissions granted are constitutional and lawful. Shah Hussain can now roam around the streets of Pakistan freely like any other citizen. Huge backlash is seen on Twitter along with Facebook as Jibran Nasir stated in his post: ” The bitter reality of PTI’s governance and its commitments to human rights.” How does it affect the nation: Various questions arise in the mind of a layman, that doing a crime or for that instance stabbing someone would only incur a little jail time, and then roaming around freely just like a common Pakistani. While the official news (the thoroughness, specifically) regarding Noor's case is encouraging, there is only so much hope we can muster when the state and the judiciary continue to fail the women of our country.
The most recent – and shocking – example of this is Shah Hussain.— Osman Khalid Butt (@aClockworkObi) July 25, 2021
