“The growing threat of child pornography must be dealt with iron fist”: SC
The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected the bail plea in a child pornography case. The child pornographer filed an application for anticipatory bail but the Supreme Court dismissed his plea. FIA Abbottabad arrested Umar Khan for uploading child pornography on social media. The court has said child pornography is a major cause of child abuse in Pakistan, and SC hinted at making it a non-bailable offense. Child pornography in Pakistan is giving rise to the crimes of pedophilia, stated the SC.
At the same time, the SC has deemed child pornography as a serious threat to the morality and the future of Pakistan’s youth. Justice Shafir Ali Akbar Naqvi concluded the hearing and wrote the verdict. Quoted by a publication, “The growing threat of child pornography must be dealt with an iron fist.” It is pertinent to know that child pornography was criminalized in 2016. If an accused was found guilty of the offense, then punishable with seven years in prison.
