When you rewind your life just a few years, you’ll start to feel alienated to the world you have lived in before. Today we might understand the latest fashion and gadgets but, today’s kids will never understand the things we had when we were at their age. When we were in grade 8 gift were not just gifts, in fact, they were sentiments that we had towards our friends.
Here are a few examples of ‘now versus then’ gifts, which we gave to our friends when we were kids:
1) Eid cards
Today’s kids will never understand the excitement we used to have when Eid was just around. Giving and receiving Eid cards have surely been one of the best times, which we waited for a whole year. That poetry on the card was a real struggle to write but, was always worth. A written Eid note for a friend meant a lot as compared to Eid Mubarak texts.
2) Accessories
Giving hand-made friendship bands to our friends, which matched ours. Never knew those matching bands in future would build a memorial in our hearts. Admit it those silver BFF necklaces can never be as cool as our matching hand-made friendship bands. No doubt these gifts would have been given with love but, a hand-made present still wins out of all the gifts which we give.
3) Photo frames
Tripping down the memory lane, another gift that comes into mind is the quintessential photo frame. Cute frames, with a photo of the BFF, every time brought a smile to our face and reminded us of the best time we had spent together. Today selfies might have replaced these frames but, matching these two will not do justice to the care we had for buying or sometimes even for making it by our hands for our friends.
4) Personalized mugs
Today’s personalized mugs might be charming with quotes or photos on them but, how cute were those mugs which we learned to decorate in our Art class.
5) Decoration pieces
And last but not the least, those decoration pieces we used to exchange with our friends. Those wind chimes and those jewelry boxes with a dancing doll on it, refreshed our memories whenever we heard their tunes. While today kids don’t even give decoration pieces as gifts. In fact pretty sure they would cringe at the very idea of it. It’s not about the gift we give, but the affection we attached to those presents. Nowadays our digitalized life has sucked away the charm of everything. Do you agree?
