What happened: In an interview with ProperGaanda, the rising Pakistani artist Ayesha Shaikh shared that her sculptures made by sheer hard work got copied and stoled by Ali Xeeshan, another renowned name in the Pakistani industry. Whereas, it is pertinent to mention that in March, Ali Xeeshan held an art exhibition by the name of “Exquisite Mistake.” As Ayesha accused that in that exhibition, he used copied pieces, “I made these in 2019, as a part of my thesis for Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture.” Details: Whereas, on her Instagram, Ayesha also shared the collage of the copied work, “I do not know whether to be infuriated or feel proud about my artwork being plagiarised by a fashion designer.” In her heart-touching Instagram post, she addressed Ali Xeeshan and “My feelings about this whole thing are a mix right now, but… WE DO NOT DESERVE THIS.. i WOULD WANT TO SPREAD AWARENESS WITHIN THE ART community, and t to take action against anyone who tries to take advantage …. plagiarism.” The response: On the other hand, Ali Xeeshan has denied all the allegations and claimed that he came up with the concept back in 2017, and as Dawn quotes, “ All through the history of art, you will find similar creations inspired by big-sized women.. To say that the postures that I had captured were plagiarised is a baseless accusation.” However, in the exclusive interview with ProperGaanda, Ayesha shared that the resemblance between the two pieces is uncanny, “it’s not just about postures as he said, that too, of course, is blatantly copied, but the colour schemes and techniques too, the final compositions.”
