Teenager tortured and subjected to mock burial in Myanmar

What happened: A 17-year old boy was tortured by security forces who beat him and buried him to the neck as they subjected him to mock burial. According to Human Rights Watch, the teenage boy is not the only one being subjected to such torture. This has been happening to all the detained citizens since Myanmar’s military seized power. Background: “They forced me to lie down into a pit while I was blindfolded, and my hands tied. They also planned to hit my head with a mattock, and I thought I was going to be buried alive when they started covering me with the dirt”- quoted the 17-year old boy who was recently maltreated by the security forces. The boy was arrested earlier in May during a raid as he was accused of being ringhead leader to a protest group. The boy narrated that he was beaten with a rifle butt and blindfolded as they prepared to take him to an interrogation centre where he was miserably tortured. He quoted that “On the third day, they drove me to a forested area about an hour away from wherever the interrogation place was.” The boy further told that the security forces denied him and other apprehended people food and water and they survive by drinking the toilet water. After being kept in an interrogation centre for seven days they were then moved to the Insein Prison, located in Myanmar’s largest city, Yangon.
