In Dehradun city of Uttarkhand state, a woman along with her two newborn twins has died due to hospitals’ refusal of treatment on suspicion of the coronavirus. Reportedly, she had visited four hospitals who had all rejected her admission, believing that she might be infected by the coronavirus. This led to her death only two days after she had given birth.

The 24 years old woman, Sudha Saini, developed complications following her birth. She lost the twins only a few hours into their birth, and her own condition deteriorated as well. Her husband reports that he took her to four hospitals, two government and two private, but they would not admit her because they feared she might have the coronavirus, as she was running a fever.

“While the doctors said she was anemic and must be administered blood, the hospital refused to admit her. They did not even examine my wife properly,” Kamlesh said, adding that they themselves had asked him to bring her after nine months of pregnancy.

They were finally admitted to a fifth hospital thanks to the intervention of an MLA, but it was too late and Sudha passed away. The authorities have ordered three separate inquiries into the case.
