Mahnoor Zaidi, an aspiring film maker and a recent graduate of York Film School in Canada, will be having a screening for her latest documentary “Dust to Dust” on this coming Sunday in Lahore – It underscores the life of a gravedigger; an individual who performs the formidable task of creating the final resting place for the soulless body of a human being.
The film was featured in the semi-finals of the student Oscars and won Best Documentary at Cineseige Toronto.
Since Zaidi is also a director at ProperGaanda, we were lucky to have an exclusive viewing ourselves and rest assured it surpassed our expectations. Mahnoor tells a different story, one we are not commonly used to hearing. She talks about a gravedigger and his life. What intrigued me most about it that it’s not a critique or support of what the man does but rather his journey. It’s an important reflection on how we perceive life. Zaidi is no newbie to the media industry, at the young age of 24 she has already worked with big names like Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Sarmad Khoosat. Her story is an inspiring one for everyone who dreams to pursue his or her passion-but usually due to family or societal pressure backs off. What’s more satisfying is seeing young filmmakers getting support from institutions to promote their work. Mahnoor’s documentary which will be screened on 17th December, Sunday in Lahore is sponsored by JS Bank and Nurpur. We definitely urge all aspiring film makers to come and show their support on the 17th of December! You can find further details about the event below by clicking here.
