Social media controversy erupts after authorities seize book containing Malala’s picture

What happened: On Monday, it was reported that Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) confiscated the social studies book for grade 7 published by the Oxford University Press (OUP). The book included a picture of Malala Yousafzai on a page listing important personalities. PCTB spokesperson claimed that book was confiscated for being published without an NOC. The publisher reported that NOC was not granted due to book’s apparent problematic content.

Details : On Monday, it was reported that Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) confiscated the social studies book for grade 7 published by the Oxford University Press (OUP) for printing the picture of Malala Yousufzai in the list of important personalities. A team of officials conducted a raid on the OUP office in Mini Market, Gulberg seizing the entire stock of the book. They further notified the press, stating that the book had not been issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC). According to one of the publishers, the book was submitted for a review in 2019, however was not granted NOC because of its contents. “The Oxford University Press has published the book despite not being issued the NOC,” the publisher said.
