Smoke from crop residue burning causes vehicle collision on Lahore-Islamabad motorway

What Happened: Reduced visibility caused by burning of agricultural waste resulted in a chain vehicle collision near Kala Shah Kaku on the Lahore to Islamabad motorway. Several people were injured and more than three dozen cars were involved in the collision.

According to eyewitnesses said a driver was forced to brake suddenly as dense clouds of smoke emanating from a nearby agricultural field drifted in front of him and temporarily disputed his vision. It resulted in the multiple-vehicle collision after the drivers of cars and passenger buses lost control. What Next: The motorway police authorities have taken up the matter with the Sheikhupura district government to take notice of this incident for action against the farmers, appealing for Section 144 to be imposed in the surroundings of the Lahore-Islamabad motorway to prevent the burning of agricultural waste by farmers so that such accidents can be avoided in the future.
