Sidra Ameen becomes the first Pakistani batter to score a century in the Women’s World Cup

What happened: The Pakistani women’s team batter Sidra Ameen became the first from the country to score a ton at the World Cup as she completed her century in 136 balls against Bangladesh on March 14, but Pakistan lost the match. Sidra Ameen hit her maiden ODI 100 while chasing 235 given by the Bangladeshi side.  Details: On March 14, Pakistan recorded its 4th consecutive loss against the Bengali women. However, Pakistan appeared to be cruising to victory, due to Sidra’s century but the middle and lower-middle order failed to provide support and Pakistan lost six wickets for 26 runs. Subsequently, the Pakistani captain is quoted by AFP as, “It is very hard to digest, we were in the game but some poor shots from the middle order cost us the game.” More: March 14, was also a historic day for the Bangladeshi women’s cricket team as they recorded their first win on the world stage. The captain Nigar Sultana is quoted as, “I cannot describe this in words because it’s our first-ever win in a World Cup and this is a history that we made.”
