The Federal Human Rights Minister, Shireen Mazari issued an apology and clarification to with regards to her tweet likening the French President to a Nazi.

In the now deleted tweet, the minister had stated that, “Macron is doing to Muslims what the Nazis did to the Jews — Muslim children will get ID numbers (other children won’t) just as Jews were forced to wear the yellow star on their clothing for identification.” .

The spokesperson of the French Embassy in Pakistan, Agnes von der Muhll, expressed disappointment that a member of the Pakistani cabinet could make such a statement.

The French Embassy released a statement in response to the tweet, “These despicable words are blatant lies, loaded with an ideology of hatred and violence. Such slanderous comments are disgraceful at such level of responsibility. We reject them strongly,”. The statement further read, “Pakistan must rectify this statement and return to the path of dialogue based on respect.”.

Shireen Mazari had tweeted an article that postulated, “Forced ID Numbers for Children: France’s Macron Introduces New Charter for French Muslims.”, the article also accused President Macron of introducing “draconian laws” for Muslims.

The publication behind the article later amended the articles to reflect that these laws would apply to all children in France, not just muslim ones. A fact that the French envoy also related to the Human Rights Minister of Pakistan.

Following the discovery that France’s new proposed laws will apply to all French children, Shireen Mazari deleted her initial tweet and admitted her mistake.

The French Embassy in Pakistan also tweeted thanking Shireen Mazari for her clarification and pointing out the mistakes in the original article.

However, in what appears to be a social media snafu the French embassy also tweeted that the misleading article has been amended to reflect “the fact that the draconian measures within the bill will be in place for all children”.

A mistake that netizens have found hilarious, as they believe it is an admission of guilt.
