Shahrukh Khan’s “Zero” Trailer Revealed!

In a time when we’re visually overstimulated and expectations have been set high, not many movie trailers leave you craving to see more. However, the trailer of ‘Zero’ was one of the very few. Directed by Anand L. Rai, and starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, the trailer broke records as it became the first Indian movie to garner 54 million views in 24 hours. Produced on an estimated budget of ₹200 crore (US$28 million), ‘Zero’ is Khan’s most expensive film to date.

Shahrukh Khan as Baauu

‘Zero’ features Shahrukh Khan, a man suffering from Dwarfism, named Baauu, Anushka Sharma as ‘Aafia’, a scientist suffering from cerebral palsy therefore unable to leave her wheelchair and Katrina Kaif as a ravishing, alcoholic movie star. Set against the backdrop of Meerut, ‘Zero’ presents an engaging story which will surely leave you in awe. The distinctive traits of the characters create an engaging dynamic which we can only guess involves love, heartbreak and insecurities. Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and the late Sridevi (who had recorded a special song with SRK a few months before her demise) are said to be making cameos in this film. Launched at a Grand Event at IMAX Wadala on Shahrukh Khan’s birthday, ‘Zero’ has been receiving immense amount of love from not only fans but also many celebrities including Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar and Sonu Sood. At the launch, Anushka revealed how getting into the shoes of her character was particularly challenging yet rewarding. She spent a lot of time being seated in a chair to really understand the essence of her character. Previously, Anushka has not been on screen in a character even remotely similar to that of Aafia so seeing her in a different role allows us to really gauge her range as an actress. Khan expressed at the launch that he does not think he is constantly at the top of his game. Karina stated that it was “tough and unusual” to romance Shahrukh as the on screen relation they have is very different from their natural relationship. Shahrukh’s character was portrayed as vertically challenged but since it was a technical procedure, it didn’t feel like that while they were shooting. This film portrays the story of a common man who challenges himself and emerges as a winner. He falls in love with a disabled girl who fully embraces herself, something which we, as a society, need to be more accepting of. Disabled people need to be treated as able-bodied people who are capable of doing everything which any other person can do. A point of contention is that the film industry hardly gives chances to disabled actors. They tend to choose actors who are able bodied, although the disabled actors can play those roles more authentically as they have experienced the world through the character’s perspective.

The movie is scheduled to release on the 21st of December 2018. Watch the trailer here:
