Seven WhatsApp hacks you should know in 2020

Share

WhatsApp has become the world’s most popular social media messaging app with over one billion users worldwide. Like most applications, WhatsApp goes through routine changes and updates to it’s features which can make it difficult to keep up with the important features. Here are some of the major WhatsApp hacks that every user should know.

Sending a private message to a member of a group

In it’s latest update, WhatsApp has removed the hassle of trying to find the private chat of a group member and has made it easier to send a private message to a member in a group.

Here’s how Android and iOS users can do this:

IOS Users: Press and hold a message in a group chat>select more>reply Privately. The message will appear in your one-to-one chat with the text box below, as it does if you reply to a specific message like above.

Android: Press and hold a message in a group chat>select the three buttons in the top right corner>reply privately. The message will appear in your one-to-one chat with the text box below, as it does if you reply to a specific message like above.

Pinning Important Chats

Whether it’s for personal reasons or professional reasons, WhatsApp allows you to pin important chats so that they show up at the top of your messages, above other messages regardless of the time that messages were sent. That means that even if you haven’t received any new messages from that individual or group, you can still pin it to the top of your messages.

IOS users: Simply swipe right on the chat and select the option to pin. You can also unpin the chat in the same manner.

Android users: Simply long-press on the chat message you want to pin and hit the pin icon on the top bar of the app.

Find the person you message the most

In the age of social media, people oftentimes use their social media usage with a person as an indicator of closeness. WhatsApp now allows you to see a list of people you message the most and form a list of favourite friends.

Not only this, if you click through the application it also allows a user to mass delete stuff that’s occupying too much space in the phone.

How: Head to settings > data and storage usage > storage usage and you’ll see a list of your most important groups and contacts ranked according to the data you’ve shared with them.

Removing images and videos from a chat

If a particular chat is taking up too much storage, you have the option to delete data from that chat. This includes messages, chats, videos, and audio from a specific conversation.

Go to Settings>> ‘Data and Storage usage’

Select ‘Storage Usage’ and you will see all groups and contacts ranked according to the storage space they are hogging.

Select the group and tap on the ‘manage messages’ option at the bottom.

Now, select and clear whatever data (videos, GIFs, Photos, etc.) that you wish to get rid of.

Call Waiting

WhatsApp has also introduced a call waiting feature which allows users to receive an incoming call while they are in the middle of another call. This option did not exist previously.

The feature is available for download on Google Play Store and App Store.

Retrieving Deleted Messages

If you’ve set up a backup for your favoured chats, WhatsApp will save the messages from that chat in cloud. This means that you delete the app, you can reinstall it and retrieve all your deleted messages instantly. This feature works for both iOS and Android.
