The Supreme Court has implored the provincial governments to look into the possibility of accommodating visually impaired persons by giving replies in Braille format On Wednesday Mohammad Bilal, a disabled person, requested the court to issue orders for the arrangement of documents in Braille format, to help people with similar disabilities understand court proceedings. The matter came to attention as the Supreme Court had taken up a case relating to the rights of the disabled.
Chaudhry Faisal Hussain, Punjab’s Additional Advocate General, said that submission of reports in the Braille format was possible and easy to achieve. Therefore, the AAG wrote a letter to Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa requesting them to allow submission of documents, including applications, before the Supreme Court in Braille. At the moment, there is no catering under the Supreme Court Rules to accept anything in Braille, which is a big problem for the visually impaired.
