Saudi Arabia allows women above the age of 45 to perform Umrah without mahram

What happened: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has allowed women over the age of 45 would be allowed to perform Umrah without being accompanied by a male guardian, known as mahram. It is pertinent to mention that this is the first time that the Saudi kingdom has opened up to Muslim women around the world who want to perform Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Details: A travel agent in Jeddah is quoted by NGulfNews,  “So far women were only allowed to come in groups of women to perform Umrah or Hajj, or with a mahram.”  The statement added,  “The rules of the kingdom are now changing as it is opening up and this is going to make a lot of Muslim women happy because it is easing the rules and pressure on them coming here.”  More: Subsequently, the publication has quoted another Indonesian citizen,  “This change would also save money for many families; usually they would have to bring son, or brother if they are widowed or if their husbands can’t travel.”   However, in 2021, the Suadi ministry also announced that women would be allowed to conduct pilgrimage without a male relative.
