Saro Imran becomes the 3rd trans in Pakistan to be awarded M.phil degree

What happened: Saro Imran was awarded the Mphil degree in Business Management with a specialization in Entrepreneurship from the Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan. She is also the first in her city to be awarded the degree. Saro Imran’s thesis was titled,  “A Transgendered Perspective on Entrepreneurship in Pakistan, Understanding the startup Motives & Challenges.”

Details:   A local publication quotes Saro’s achievement as,  “She chose the topic because of her 7 years experience working for transgender people on the grass-root level. The majority of human rights violations happening on the transgender people is because they are financially dependent on their abusers.”  At the same time, it is pertinent to mention that the local publications suggest that the trans community in Pakistan is the most neglected segment of society.

More: After completing her degree, she received an appreciation award from the Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Saro Imran’s tweet read,  “This is the success of the whole transgender community. We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow trans sisters. I believe that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.”
