Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid plans to donate her organs after death

What happened: During a press conference at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Punjab Health Minister, announced on Jan 11 that she will be donating her organs after death as she emphasized that ‘saving a life is like saving mankind as a whole.’ Details: “I am making an announcement to donate all of my medically-fit organs after death,” the provincial health minister said during the conference where parents, whose children are on the ventilator, said they would donate their child’s organs as they breathe their last. Dr. Yasmin praised the guardians for their bravery and making such a ‘difficult’ decision.  What you need to know: Dr. Yasmin stated that 70% of the transplants performed at PKLI are free of charge, including the patients who donated their organs. “We’ve done 140 liver transplants, 231 kidney transplants, and 58,000 dialysis in a year,” she added, announcing that the facility will be inaugurating a bone-marrow transplant center in the following year.
