PUBG will not be banned, as LHC dismisses petition seeking ban on the game

What happened: On February 6, the Lahore High Court dismissed the petition seeking a ban on PUB as neither the petitioner nor his counsel appeared before the court to pursue the petition. The petition was filed by Tanveer Sarwar as it was reported that an increase in violent incidents was allegedly linked to PUBG; however, both Tanveer and his petitioner did not appear at the LHC on February 7.

Details: Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza dismissed the petition seeking a ban on PUBG. It is pertinent to mention that Dawn quoted Tanveer’s petition as,  “He pleaded to the court to order the respondents to impose an immediate ban on PUBG by blocking its access in the country.”  Subsequently, Pakistan Telecommunication was also named in the petition as Tanveer claimed that WHO had declared game addiction as a mental health disorder in 2018.

More: Earlier in January, another young man in Lahore killed his family members in the city and it was alleged that he was addicted to PUBG. At the same time, it is pertinent to mention that the Punjab Police had also suggested a ban on PUBG after a teenager murdered his family allegedly linking it to PUBG.
