Background: Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that “Gilgit-Baltistan is going to become Pakistan’s fifth province”. PM Khan was speaking at an Independence Day parade in Gilgit-Baltistan on 1st November. It also marks GB’s Independence Day and the day it ceded to Pakistan.
This initiative led to the election campaigns in Gilgit-Baltistan. All the major political parties started their mobilization immediately.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz reached GB and started campaigning for the elections.
PM Imran Khan has also hosted a rally in Gilgit-Baltistan and expected to win too. But recently, PTI government is using different strategies to win over the GB voters.
What happened: #GBprepollrigging star trending on twitter on Friday after PTI government disturbed flour among voters.
In addition to this PTI Federal Minister Gandapur convinced an Independent candidate from Skardu-1 to withdraw in favour of PTI & appoints him as his Advisor for GB Affairs.
Reaction: According to media reports, PPP has announced to hold a protest outside Skardu press club and has urged Election Commission Pakistan to take notice of the events.
