Prime Minister gives green light to start vaccine production process in Pakistan

Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Ministry of health to start the coronavirus vaccine production process, via a letter he wrote to them.

The Prime Minister has told Health Ministry officials to start preparing proposals for the production of a vaccine. Officials have been directed to prepare proposals after consulting about the vaccine with government stakeholders and the private sector.

Referencing his recent correspondence with the United States, the Prime Minister stated that they have agreed to fully cooperate with Pakistan in the development and production of the vaccine.

The Prime Minister also stated, in his letter, that, “The United States will first distribute the coronavirus vaccine among its citizens before sending it out to countries who are its allies”. The Economic Coordination Committee has already approved a $150 million technical supplementary grant for the purpose of booking the vaccine from international manufacturers.
