What happened: According to health officials Covid-19 positivity rate jumped to 7.1pc coronavirus in Islamabad as 113 positive cases reported were reported today in the federal capital. Delta variant was traced among these cases.
Details: Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) Babar Sahib Din informed that the Delta variant was traced among positive cases, however, the total number of people who contracted this variant is still not known. Noting that this variant is more contagious and deadlier than the other variants, strict compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be enforced in the city. The ADC further added that SOPs will be implemented particularly in marriage halls and restaurants. During the last 24 hours, 1,978 tests were conducted and out of the total 92 males and 49 females were tested positive, they said. Moreover, Asad Umar in a tweet stated that the current rise in cases reflects the beginning of the fourth wave.
2 weeks back I had tweeted that our artifical intelligence models are showing possible emergence of 4th wave. Now there are clear early signs of 4th wave starting. Poor sop compliance, coupled with spread of variants of concern, indian variant in particular, are the main cause.
