National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officers, alongside police officials have surrounded PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s house in Lahore after he missed the third hearing in a row with NAB. This hearing was regarding money laundering and possession of assets beyond means.
Whilst the media is being blocked from approaching Shehbaz’s residence, footage of PML-N workers protesting outside against the police, who are all wearing riot gear can be seen.
Shehbaz Sharif excused himself from appearing at the hearing citing health reasons, he quoted the same reason for missing the first two hearings. In his statement to NAB, he had written that due to some NAB officials testing positive for COVID-19, he could not appear before the body. He further cited his old age as well as the fact that he is a cancer survivor as the reason. However, he stated that he would be willing to answer any questions the investigators have for him via Skype.
On 4 May, Shehbaz Sharif attended a summons by the CIT, and had reportedly submitted all information regarding his assets. According to NAB, the documents submitted were unsatisfactory and he had been called to appear before the body on June 2nd once again.
Other PML-N leaders such as Maryam Aurangzeb are of the opinion that the government is carrying out a proverbial “witch-hunt” against the opposition party.
Speaking to Dawn News , she said: “Nobody criticises Imran Khan, no one arrests Buzdar. This circus is being done to distract [the people from] corruption and theft, to fool the Pakistani people. It does not make a difference to the PML-N.
“The NAB-Niazi nexus is being used. This is the response to corona, this is the response to the Rs3 billion sugar that was looted from the people. This circus is being played out because they don’t have the courage to summon Imran Khan or to arrest him and Buzdar,” she said.
I very like this blog. Everything is cleared.
