PM Imran Khan applauds President Putin’s remarks against Islamophobia

What happened: On December 24, Prime Minister Imran Khan took on Twitter to praise Russian President, Vladimir Putin’s anti-Islamophobia remarks, saying that this statement reaffirms his message i.e. “insulting Holy Prophet (PBUH) is not freedom of expression.”

Back story: On Thursday, President Putin claimed that disrespecting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) does not qualify as an “expression of artistic freedom,” during his annual news conference. The Russian premiere said, “Blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a violation of religious freedom and the hurts the sacred feelings of people who profess Islam.” Putin claimed that such acts provoke extreme retaliation, citing the attack on the editorial office of Charlie Hebdo magazine, in Paris after it published blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). What else: JUI-F leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman also praised Putin, adding that his remark vindicates the Muslim world’s stance, that criticizing the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is not freedom of speech.
