What happened: Opposition parties are expected today (Monday) to hold a PDM rally against the government authorities. Over the weekend, Administrative government deployed containers and registered FIRs to thwart the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM ) rally.
But in a surprise move, Punjab Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani has ordered the removal of all barriers in the way/route of political workers of the Opposition parties.
Last week, the Multan administration had denied permission to hold the jalsa at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh Stadium citing coronavirus restrictions.
New Faces: Aseefa Bhutto Zardari will be leading the PPP rally with Yousuf Raza Gilani. On Monday she landed in Multan and headed straight to the Gilani House. Aseefa is standing in for PPP chairman and brother Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus last week.
Over the weekend, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son Ali Qasim Gilani and other activists were arrested by Multan Police and cases were registered against hundreds of opposition parties’ activists.
