Pakistan’s 1st female Col Commandant of Army Medical Corps is Lt Gen Nigar Johar

What happened: Lieutenant General Nigar Johar received her pins from the COAS Gen Bajwa in Abbottabad. General Qamar Javed Baqa installed Lt General Nigar Johar as the first-ever female general appointed Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps. Pak Army’s media wing revealed in a statement about the appointment. Details: The Chief Of the Army Staff, General Bajwa, also applauded the efforts made by the Army’s medical corps. Gen Bajwa said,  “AMC has always answered the call of during natural calamities, both inland and abroad.”  The COAS has also deemed the Army doctors as the frontline heroes for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Appreciating Lt Gen Nigar Johar,  “Installation of the first-ever three star female general officer of Pakistan Army as Colonel Commandant of AMC is indeed a matter of immense pride for Pakistan Army and the country.”

Who is Nigar Johar Khan? Born in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi city, Nigar Johar Khan is a three-star general in the Pakistan Army. She is also the first and the only woman in the history of the Pakistan Army to obtain the rank of lieutenant-general. Lieutenant General Nigar Johar Khan was also featured in ISPR’s video honoring women in the Pakistan Armed Forces in 2015.
