Pakistanis urge the PMLN-led federal government to abolish taxes on food items 

What happened: The Tehreek-i-Istaqlal president Rehmat Khan in a presser urged the government to finish all the taxes on food and increase the wages of small industrialists. Rehmat Khan has further noted that food items should be made affordable for all the segments of Pakistani society. As he is quoted by Dawn,  “While increasing oil prices, it should take steps to protect the food sector from its impact.”  Details: Suggesting PMLN government Rehmat Khan said,  “Govt should make food items tax free and enhance wage of workers instead of giving financial packages, as the previous governments did.”  At the same time, he urged that the smuggling of food items should be looked at with full attention. While, laying out the demands, he said,  “Government should pay a fair price of wheat, sugarcane, and cotton to growers immediately and finish the role of middlemen, as it leads to economic exploitation.”
