What happened : Pakistan’s weightlifter Talha Talib, has been nominated by the International Olympic Committee to represent Pakistan at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 21-year old Gujranwala based athlete will be the youngest weightlifter to represent Pakistan at the Olympics – “I’ll be going as the first weightlifter at the Olympics in 46 years from Pakistan, it is a dream come true.” Talha will represent Pakistan in the 67-kilogram weight category. The Association Secretary Muhammad Khalid Mahmood has been reported to state that this is the first time the young weightlifter will be participating in the Olympic Games representing the South Asian country. The Latest: Upon accepting a request from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), the International Olympic Committee, in collaboration with International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), confirmed that Talha Talib has been offered an invitation to participate in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Background: Talha has proven to have a history of athletic achievements in numerous Weightlifting Championships. In April 2021, He won a bronze medal in snatch in the Asian Weightlifting Championship in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent. According to this Friday’s POA press release; “this is the first time that he will be participating in the Olympic Games representing Pakistan. Talha has clinched Medals in Commonwealth (bronze), South Asian Games (gold) and International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship (gold) for Pakistan”.
