Pakistani Qawwal Amjad Sabri was recently featured in popular British band Coldplay’s latest album entitled ‘Everyday Life’.

In an interview with Intercom, Chris Martin the lead singer of Coldplay delved into detail about the inspiration behind their newest album titled ‘Everyday Life’ and shed light on the various people who helped make the album become a reality.

While speaking about their song ‘Church’, the singer explained that the band incorporated samples from one of Sabri’s most popular tracks ‘Jaga Ji Laganay’ into the song.

‘There are two other cool singers on that one’, explained Martin when speaking about the track. Introducing the qawwal, Martin continued ‘There’s this guy who was a Pakistani singer called Amjad Sabri. He was sadly murdered by people who didn’t like what he stood for. Then there’s a friend of ours called Norah, who is a guy from Jerusalem’.

Martin paid tribute to the singers by jokingly adding ‘I’m the third best singer on that track’.

‘Everyday Life’ has already made it to the top of the Official Album Charts.

Amjad Sabri was gunned down in Karachi nearly two years ago. Since the tragic incident, the music of the Sufi sect has been struggling to continue with fears about sectarianism and safety on the rise. Following the death of the singer, thousands of fans poured into streets near his home for his funeral in a rare display of public affection in the urban city of Karachi.
