What happened: NFTOAR is Pakistan’s first NFT gallery, dedicated to using block chain and NFTs, in a bid to advance and conserve both, real and digital art. Muhammad Awais co-founded and curates NFTOAR, and Ahmad Bilal (@ahmadbilal.x) is the creative director. This one-of-a-kind art space is a subsidiary of Ejaz Art Gallery (@ejazartgalleries) in Lahore. Details: On December 10, NFTOAR held its first exhibition, ‘A Slice of Life’, displaying a physical artwork by Hamza Qazi (@ihamzaqazi) named, ‘Swaddling Girl,’ at Ejaz Art Gallery’s exhibition. The medium used for the piece is oil on linens and is about 36 x27 inches big. The composition is a reimagining of sorts of the original artwork, but it now has a new life and meaning in the digital domain. ‘The Swaddling Girl’ depicts a visual representation of an experience during the Covid-19 epidemic. Why it matters: In Pakistan, this was a first-of-its-kind attempt. The curator explained that he wanted to educate the audience, and other artists to look beyond the traditional art landscapes we’ve become accustomed to. What’s next: NFTOAR is now working on a new project, in partnership with Ejaz Art Gallery that promises to be even more exciting. It is all set to launch an exclusive 1/1 NFT project named, ‘The Enchantress’ by the master artist and recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Saeed Akhtar (@saeedakhtar7).
